I have a strong feeling that traffic is terrible at this time for three obvious reasons: (1) it’s a Friday; (2) it’s a payday Friday; and (3) it’s St. Valentine’s Day. I’m betting my cards that all restaurants—from fast-food to fancy—are already packed with people at this hour. I am pretty sure that flowers, hearts and chocolates are all over the place today, too. I, on the other hand, am sitting comfortably in the living room couch as I write this.
Today is the beginning of another long weekend since Chinese New Year. Yesterday was a special non-working holiday exclusive to the city where my office is located, but decided to report to work on that day in order to compensate for my Friday absence. I have been looking forward to Friday all week for so many reasons, and no, Valentine’s Day has nothing to do with it.
As you may have seen in my post yesterday, our marriage certificate has arrived in the mail! We’ve been looking forward to receiving this because this particular document is a key requirement for my petition papers. (Back story: We would have done this a long time ago had I agreed to a civil wedding before the church one, but I didn’t so I wasn’t able to join him when he returned to the US in January.) Anyway, these are the things I have accomplished this week [on top of my daily job]:
- Closed Joint Savings Account from Bank #1.
- Deposited withdrawn money from Bank #1 to Joint Savings Account in Bank #2.
- Requested Statement of Account from Bank #2.
- Requested Bank Certification of Joint Savings Account from Bank #2.
- Had passport photos taken.
- Sent all items from items 1 to 5 to the US via courier.
Man, I feel like I’m on top of my game having completed all those grown-up stuff by myself. When my husband found out I did all these, he felt like all good things are coming to light. Sure, they are! (He’s still in denial that I am his lucky charm.) He’s been anxious lately because out of all the job applications he’s submitted, none of them has called yet. Although this worries me, too, I have to take on my role of encouraging him not to give up. When this happens, I divert his attention to something else. Good thing he gets easily distracted, so he won’t stay gloomy for long.
Now, there’s one more thing I’m not done yet with… Choose 160 out of 5,000++ photos for our wedding album. We’ve been slacking off for a month now! We aim to get it done and over with the soonest possible because production (i.e., layout design, revisions, etc.) may take up to six months to finish, and we hope to be able to bring the photo album when we finally leave for the US. Wish we could just randomly pick photos…
Anyway, I know I should be sulky in my husband’s absence, but I have to attend to a lot of things this weekend to even be down in the mouth about it. I’m not totally against the holiday, but there goes my Valentine’s Day gig!
How/with whom did you spend yours?
